Blockchain for Auditors, Regulators and Law Enforcement is a 1-hour class that will be conducted by Blockmatics. As an auditor, regulator or law enforcement officer, you need to have the know-how to track on-chain activity.

The Silk Road case has demonstrated how law enforcement organizations are already quite capable of tracing transactions using the blockchain. Not only did it result in the capture of and shutdown of the drug bazaar but also implicated DEA agent Carl Force accused of stealing Bitcoins during the investigation. In the case against him a chart presented showed how law enforcement tracked the funds through the blockchain despite the fact that Carl Force tried to split the transactions across numerous addresses.

Knowing how to view and track transactions on a blockchain is a core skill needed for auditors, regulators or law enforcement officers entering the blockchain space. This 1-hour briefing will include an introduction to blockchain, blockchain explorers, smart contracts and tools to get insight into the Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchains. The speakers will then highlight some case studies and investigations to date.

Class agenda

  • Overview of Blockchain technology
  • Exploring a blockchain explorer
  • Tools to track transactions on a blockchain
  • Decentralized exchanges
  • Case studies: Mt. Gox and BTC-e

This course will offer Continuing Legal Education (CLE) or Continuing Profession Education (CPE) credit.
